Vacuum Kiln Drying

Kiln drying is a necessary process to kill wood-born bugs and results in wood that is thoroughly dry with reduced defects and more stability. If wood is placed indoors without being kiln-dried first, it will always move over time. This happens due to the difference in temperature and humidity between the outdoor environment where it was milled/made into furniture, and the indoor environment where it will sit for the remainder of its life. This movement results in cracking, splitting and warping of the wood because as a piece of furniture, the wood doesn’t have the space to move on its own.

By vacuum-kiln drying, instead of conventional kiln drying, the drying process is accelerated without risk of damaging the wood. For recently milled slabs to achieve the best result, we recommend allowing the wood to air dry for approx. 3-6 months before being loaded into the kiln.
